If your soil is compacted break it up with a garden fork and work in plenty of organic matter such as well-rotted manure or compost. Daffodils like a moist but free draining soil. Choose a sunny or semi-shaded spot which receives at least 3 hours of sun per day daffodils won't flower in heavy shade. If flowering is poor you can top-dress the soil around your daffodils with a slow-release bulb fertilizer each spring. Simply sprinkle the fertilizer around the soil at the base of the leaves. Plant your daffodil bulbs with the pointed end facing upwards at a depth of about 10cm (4in). Deep planting is important to prevent the bulbs dividing and producing lots of small bulbs which won't flower. Space them about two bulb-widths apart.Naturalizing Daffodils are well suited to naturalizing in areas of lawn or rough grass. When planting in grass, try not to lay out the bulbs too neatly as this spoil the natural effect, use a bulb planter to remove a core of turf, before placing the bulb inside and covering back over. Take care not to mow these areas of grass until June or July to allow the foliage to die down and build the bulb up for next year.In containers All Daffodils can be grown in containers, the same rules apply as for planting in the ground, planting about 10cm (4in) deep. When growing daffodils in pots, they can be placed much closer together than normal, to give a fuller display. Space them about one bulb-width apart.Dead-head after flowering If you didn't use your daffodils for cut flowers, it's a good idea to dead-head them once the flowers fade. This prevents the plants wasting energy forming seeds and prevents daffodil blindness which is when the leaves app

From $14.44
Unit price perIris reticulata, commonly called reticulated iris, is a bulbous perennial iris that is native to Turkey, the Caucasus, Northern Iraq and Iran. It is a low-growing purple-flowered reticulate or netted iris that blooms in March to early April in the St. Louis area, at about the same time as snowdrops (Galanthus), glory-of-the-snow (Chionodoxa) and the early crocuses. Striking purple 2.5” diameter flowers with gold crests and white streaks on the falls appear on naked stems (scapes) typically growing to 6-8 tall. Flowers have a sweet fragrance. Narrow, linear, 4-sided, grass-like leaves (usually 2-4 per plant) typically rise to the same level as the flower at the time of bloom, but elongate to 12-15” after bloom before eventually disappearing by late spring as the plant goes dormant.

Excellent Cut Flowers
Easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Soil needs to stay relatively dry in summer in order for the bulbs to set buds for the following year. Plant bulbs 3-4” deep and space 3-4” apart in fall. Bulbs tend to separate into offsets or bulblets after bloom (particularly when planted shallowly), with each new bulblet requiring several years to mature. Although bulbs can be dug and divided (offsets removed) after bloom, it is probably best to do this only if flowering has significantly declined. In order to insure consistent flowering from year to year, it is an option to plant supplemental bulbs eac

Ageratum houstonianum ( Flossflower , Bluemink , Garden Ageratum , Blueweed , Pussy Foot ) syn. Ageratum mexicanum Hort. ) is a cool-season annual plant often grown as a bedding plant in gardens . Herb 0.3-1 m high, leaves ovate to triangular 2-7 cm long, and flowers are usually blue (though sometimes white, pink, or purple), the heads borne in dense corymbs . The ray flowers are threadlike, leading to the common name.
Ageratum (Ageratum Mexicanum Blue) - Ageratum flowers are large with powder-puff heads and a soft blue in color. These annuals establish from Ageratum seeds, and they grow to about 12 inches tall. Ageratum Mexicanum is wonderful and easy to grow from flower seeds for either container planting or edging borders. Grow alongside soft pink Ageratum for a rather special effect. Ageratum plants prefer a well-drained soil in full sun. One of the best Ageratum flower seeds for uniformity, earliness and all round performance. Start the Ageratum flower seeds indoors 6 - 8 weeks before the end of frost season. Transplant outdoors after danger of frost. For areas with a long growing season, Ageratum seeds can be started directly outdoors in a prepared seedbed after all danger of frost has passed. Blooms are extraordinarily long-lived, dead heading is necessary, yet infrequent. Flower Specifications
