How to Grow Pampas Grass

Before growing pampas grass, be sure to put it somewhere in the landscape where it has plenty of room to grow, especially when planting more than one. When mass planting pampas grass, you'll have to space them about 6 to 8 feet apart.

Pampas grass enjoys areas with full sun but will tolerate partial shade. It also tolerates a wide range of soil types but prefers moist, well-draining soil. Another plus side to growing pampas grass is its tolerance of drought, wind, and salt sprays - which is why you commonly see the plant along coastal regions.

The grass is hardy in USDA zones 7-11, but in well protected areas, it can also be grown in Zone 6. It's not suited for cold regions unless grown in pots and brought indoors over winter and replanted outdoors in spring. Due to its large size, however, this isn't really practical.

 

How to Care for Pampas Grass

Once established, pampas grass care is minimal, requiring little maintenance other than watering in extreme drought. This is usually performed in late winter or early spring. Because of the plant's sharp foliage, the task of pruning should be done with great care using gloves and a long-sleeved shirt.

However, with appropriate measures taken (for clumps well away from homes and buildings), you can also burn the foliage down to the green growth without any harm to the plant.

 

Propagating Pampas Grass

Pampas grass is usually propagated through division in spring. Normally, only female plants are propagated. Pampas grass bears male and female plumes on separate plants, with females being the most common among varieties grown. They are much showier then their male counterparts with fuller plumes (flowers) of silk-like hairs, of which the males do not have.

The Moringa Oleifera, is one of the greatest plant species in India. A Moringa leaf has more than 25 Percent protein, which is as much as in eggs and twice the amount of milk!  Originally, the moringa tree comes from India, where people have been eating moringa fruits, drumsticks, moringa leaves, roots, moringa seeds for thousands of years. Love for moringa has been shown by Indians due to its great health benefits and great medicinal values it holds for humans and animals.  Moringa seed germination using seven temperature regimes in the laboratory showed that 20Degree C/68Degree F is the optimum temperature for the best germination rate of the moringa seeds.   Moringa seeds have a unique appearance and due to relatively larger size than other vegetables, it can be sown in-depth inside the soil. Moringa seeds grow the plant to a height of 4 to 6 meters and come to flower in 90-100 days after planting. For germination to start, moringa seeds are soaked in water for 24 hours for enhancing the speed of the germination. The next day after 24 hours of soaking the seeds, soaked seeds shall be removed and kept in a wet paper towel or cotton cloth.  Wrap the seeds and a knot to be put around the neck. Moringa seeds then should be placed in a vessel in dark. It might take one week to 20 days to start the germination of the seeds. The paper towel, the cotton cloth should be wet.   Moringa seeds, like any other seeds, germinate better if soaked in warm water overnight. Add a couple of drops of 3 Percent Hydrogen Peroxide to the soak to enhance germination. Once germinated, Moringa grows very easily and doesn't require much maintenance other than vertical support.  Youtube generally has much better videos if you want to learn or need more detailed instructions (such as planting in pots, etc.).
