Short’s Sedge (Carex shortiana) is native to central east parts of the United States, ranging from Kansas to the East coast, from Virginia up to New York. It thrives in USDA zones 4-7 in moist deciduous woods, woodland borders, moist prairies, sedge meadows, seeps, and areas around rivers and ponds. Being able to survive a wide array of sun exposures (full sun to full shade), and preferring medium to medium wet soils, this sedge will make a lovely addition to rain gardens, woodland areas, lake/river/pond shores, or in wetter parts of your flower bed, yard, or prairie.
