This lovely sorrel plant is grown for its red fleshy calyces that surround the base of the flowers. The Sorrel, also know as roselle, or hibiscus sabdariffa is used to make a refreshing drink or tea. In the Caribbean it is a delicacy especially at Christmas time, and the flavor is wonderful.The crunchy flower calyx can be eaten fresh as a treat and makes a good smoothie ingredient. These are Non-GMO. Sow by sprinkling seeds thinly above the ground and lightly cover with soil. In the Caribbean it is usually planted in rows, but can be planted singly. Sorrel is a tropical plant and prefers well drained soils. Starts to bear in about 3 to 4 months time.
